Ingredients & Substitutions
Here are the ingredients you need to make this recipe. Reference the recipe card at the bottom for exact measurements and the notes below for substitution ideas.
- Flatbread: I use store-bought naan. Sam's Club sells them in bulk that allows me to keep a few on hand in the freezer. Stonefire is another brand to look for in the bakery or deli section of your grocery store. Stonefire also has mini naan to experiment with. Some stores like Trader Joe's also carry frozen Naan bead.
- Pizza sauce: Store-bought pizza sauce works great. My favorite brands are 365, Rao's or Delallo. You could also use marinara sauce or canned tomatoes if that is what you have on hand. Pesto or olive oil also work.
- Cheese: Mozzarella and parmesan are two standards for this recipe. You can add in any kind of cheese you prefer. Refer to the topping ideas section for some recommendations.

Topping Ideas
The original recipe is a basic cheese with tomato sauce. I've included a number of ideas below for how to make naan bread pizza customized to you and your family's taste buds!
- Pepperoni: A classic favorite! Add pepperoni or mini pepperoni to the original recipe. You could also try meatballs or sausage for a different spin!
- Breakfast: Top flatbread with scrambled eggs, chopped bacon and a drizzle of hot sauce for a yummy breakfast pizza.
- Dairy Free: Use dairy free cheese or opt for no cheese and load up on veggies and sauce.
- Mediterranean: Olive oil or hummus takes the place of tomato sauce for this flatbread without sauce. Top with feta or goat cheese, Greek seasoning, arugula kalamata olives and sun-dried tomatoes. Grilled chicken is also a delicious topping for this one!
- Mexican: Top with taco sauce and ground beef, Mexican cheese blend, lettuce, guacamole and all of your favorite taco bar fixin's!
- Caprese: A perfect no sauce pizza that uses olive oil or pesto as the sauce and top with Roma tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Top with torn basil and a drizzle of balsamic glaze and pesto.
- Vegetarian: Load up on healthy veggies like broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, onions and more! Roasted veggies also taste great.
- Three Cheese: Add in some of your favorite cheeses like ricotta, parmesan and mozzarella for an extra cheesy version.
Expert Tips
- Make Ahead: Pita bread pizza can be made ahead and store covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 day prior to cooking. If making ahead the crust will not be as crisp due to the sauce soaking in. You may consider either cooking on a pizza stone or directly on the oven rack to get the crust crispier.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat: If you don't like cold pizza you can reheat it in the oven at 400F for about 5-7 minute or until it is heated through. You can also reheat it in the air fryer at 360 for about 5 minutes. I don't recommend microwaving leftovers as the crust will lose its crisp.
- Freezer: Keep a stash of frozen flatbread in the freezer for when you need a quick meal! You can also meal prep these beforehand and store them in freezer safe containers for up to 3 months. They can be baked straight from frozen - just add a few extra minutes to account for that.
- Extra crispy option: Pre-bake naan bread pizza without toppings for 2-3 minutes before adding toppings to crisp the flatbread even more.
- How to make this recipe without an oven: If there is no oven available, you could also make naan bread pizza in a toaster oven or an air fryer. For the toaster oven follow the directions per the recipe. To make in an air fryer, air fry at 360F for 8-10 minutes or until desired crispiness.
