Ingredients

  • 1 pound Brussel sprouts cleaned and halved
  • 2 tablespoon sesame oil
  • salt + pepper to taste

Sauce Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoon raw honey
  • 2 tablespoon Sriracha sauce more or less if desired
  • ½ teaspoon rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

Air Fryer Instructions

  • Mix together the sauce ingredients in a medium bowl and set the sauce aside.
  • Trim sprouts of lower stems and any spotted outside leaves. Cut each sprout into three equal pieces. Coat the Brussels sprouts with 2 tablespoon sesame oil, salt and pepper.  Air fry in a single layer at 350F for 7 minutes.  Turn and fry for an additional 7 minutes. Work in batches if needed.
  • Once they are cooked and crispy, coat them with the desired amount of sauce.
  • The final crisp will be at 375F for one minute to set the sauce and crisp them up. Dip in extra sauce if desired.

Oven Directions

  • Prepare the sauce and clean brussels as noted in the air fryer recipe.  Place seasoned sprouts on a baking sheet sprayed with coconut oil spray.
  • Roast for 25 minutes at 400F or until desired crispiness has been achieved.

Notes

  • Per the recipe directions, you will be cutting the sprouts into threes, thereby making a more "shredded" or "shaved" sprout. To make halves, increase the temperature to 400F so that the insides cook evenly.
  • Reserve extra sauce for dipping or use as a marinade for shrimp or salmon.
  • Add a squeeze of lime over top for some extra flavor.
  • Both air fry and oven directions require brussels to be in one layer so that they crisp up and do not steam.
  • If you are looking to make a pan fried or cast iron skillet version, heat oil over medium heat and cook them until desired doneness. Coat with sauce and then place cast iron skillet or oven safe container under broiler for a few minutes (watch it closely) to get an extra crisp. Do not put non-oven safe pans in the oven.
  • Make Ahead: Sauce may be made ahead and sprouts may be trimmed and cleaned up to 3 days ahead.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Freezer: If using frozen be sure to add additional time and cook in one layer to avoid steaming. You may need to increase the temperature in the final crisp to get the crispy outsides.
  • Reheating: Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350F for 3-5 minutes, shaking halfway or until heated through and desired level of crispiness.
  • Serving: Honey Sriracha Brussel sprouts with bacon would be the ultimate dinner combo.  You could also side an air fried chicken recipe or salmon that would make a perfect pair. They would also be delicious in a stir fry or buddha bowl.
