Ingredients and Substitutions
Here are the ingredients you need to make this recipe. Reference the recipe card at the bottom for exact measurements and the notes below for substitution ideas.
- Use all-purpose flour for both layers. Do not substitute flours.
- Unsweetened cocoa powder gives the fudgy brownie layer its chocolatey flavor. Cacao powder may also be used.
- Baking soda is used in the cookie layer and baking powder is used in the brownie layer to give each layer their classic textures.
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips are in both layers. Extra chocolate chips are in the brownies to make them even more chocolatey!
- Oreos - you can top the Oreo brookies with smaller pieces of chopped Oreos or stir chopped Oreos in a swirl pattern among both layers.
- White sugar sweetens both layers and light brown sugar creates a yummy chewy texture.
- Unsalted butter - softened butter is used in the chocolate chip cookie layer and melted butter in the brownie layer.
- Large eggs and egg yolks help to provide texture.
- Vanilla extract provides the whole recipe with a warm and delicious flavor.
