Troubleshooting Making Ninja Creami Recipes
If you find your Ninja cream ice cream to be too icy or has icy edges, there is not enough liquid or you are using a low-fat milk. Full-fat milk will create the right consistency.
Also, I almost always add a splash of milk re-spin for a creamier texture. The re-spin function is also needed when you are making the ice cream ahead of time.
Adding more liquid is a great alternative to adding instant pudding mix or guar gum. You can add these to your recipe, but adding more liquid and completing a second spin will do the trick.
Expert Tips
- Add Greek yogurt or cottage cheese to make the ice cream have even more grams of protein per serving. This also helps to make the texture creamy.
- Allow the frozen pint container to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before the initial spin.
FAQs about the Ninja Creami Ice Cream Maker
Ninja recommends a full 24 hours for the ice cream to freeze before using the machine. I've been able to make delicious ice cream with just an overnight freeze (8-12 hours.)
Besides making homemade ice cream, you can make smoothie bowls, gelato, sorbet, and milkshakes.
You can use frozen fruit and a liquid like coconut water or lemonade to make a light and refreshing sorbet.
The Ninja Creami is not the same as a regular ice cream maker. It has no cooling mechanism and requires an overnight freeze of the ice cream.
It is more versatile than a traditional ice cream maker since it can also make a smoothie bowl, gelato, sorbet, or a milkshake.
I recommend either a protein milk like Fairlife or a protein shake when making a healthy ice cream recipe. If you are looking for plant-based milk, try full-fat oat milk for a creamy non-dairy option.
Store leftover ice cream in an airtight container. I use the Ninja Creami pint container provided.
