Meatballs are an easy staple in our home.  This recipe for crockpot meatballs was inspired by one of my favorite recipes Instant Pot Buffalo Chicken Meatballs.  But instead of the instant pot, these meatballs are made in the slow cooker.

How to Cook Meatballs in Sauce

Cooking meatballs in sauce gives them delicious flavor.  You can brown them in a pan or broil them in the oven if you wish, but it’s not required.

Here is how I cook Italian style meatballs in sauce:

  • Add meat (I usually make ground turkey meatballs in sauce, but you can also use beef or chicken) to a large bowl.
  • Mix in almond flour, garlic + cheese.
  • Add in one egg.
  • Work mixture together with hands, but do not over mix (you’ll end up with tough meatballs).
  • Use a standard size ice cream scoop to measure out one large meatball.  Score it down the middle and roll out two smaller meatballs.
  • Add meatballs and your favorite marinara sauce to your slow cooker.
  • Slow cook for 6-8 hours on low or 3-4 hours on high.

Do I have to cook meatballs before putting them in the slow cooker?

These meatballs are so easy to make for a easy weeknight dinner.  In fact – you can prep them on the weekend, and dump them right into the crockpot for dinner.  The meatballs cook right there in the sauce.  You end up with a delicious and homemade Italian meatball.
