First it was plain old glazed Krispy Kreme copycats. Somehow we were able to turn these babies into Keto donuts. Now – I’m taking it a step further and brining you chocolate Keto Donuts. You’re welcome.

What is the Keto Diet – before you start read this!
Before I tell you about what the Keto diet is, I disclaim that any and all “diet” that you choose to follow should be discussed with your doctor.
In a quick and dirty Keto tutorial, the Keto diet is basically where you eat higher amounts of fats and lower amounts of carbs. Once done properly, following a Keto diet will send your body into a state of ketosis, during which your stored fat is used as energy. So, your calories are coming from fat, not carbs. Thus, your body burns your stored fat!

What not to eat on the Keto Diet
How can we make donuts keto-friendly? There are a few items that are no-no’s on the keto diet.
The keto diet is defined as low-carb. That means you will be limiting certain foods.

The foods to avoid on keto are:
sugars and sweets
factory farmed fish & pork
refined oils and fats
The key to this (and many) keto diet desserts is the addition of fats and the removal of sugar! This chocolate keto donut recipe includes cream cheese, butter and my favorite Keto-friendly sweetener, Swerve!
Chocolate Keto Donuts Recipe
Chocolate Keto Donuts
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup almond flour
- 1/4 cup Keto-friendly protein powder
- 2 TB coconut flour
- 1/4 cup Swerve granulated
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 oz cream cheese softened
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut or almond milk
- 1/4 cup grassfed butter
- 1/4 cup Swerve confectioners
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tsp vanilla
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
Melt butter in sauce pan and add in Swerve. Stir until Swerve is completely melted and then add heavy whipping cream and vanilla. Stir over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
Remove glaze from heat.
Separate two eggs and set aside yolks for later. Whip egg whites to stiff peaks and set aside.
Mix together dry ingredients and softened cream cheese.
Add wet ingredients and stir until well mixed.
Gently fold egg whites into mixture. Stir until color is consistent.
Spray donut pan with coconut spray and fill approximately 2/3 of the way.
Bake in oven for 14-16 minutes or until lightly browned. Allow donuts to cool in pan for 5 minutes then move to a baking rack to cool completely.
Allow glaze to completely cool and thicken before dipping donuts in glaze. You may also glaze very lightly and/or allow donuts to sit out to avoid being wet.
Note: The donuts are moist and will soak up the glaze. You can store them in the refrigerator. The glaze will soak in but they still taste amazing!
