7 Steps to DIY Fall Decor
Looking to create a cozy fall-like feeling in your home? I love fall and the pumpkin spice everything time of year! Crisp leaves, cool breezes, the pumpkin patch, what’s not to love?
This year I was looking to decorate our newly renovated dining room. We completely gutted our dining room and after replacing the flooring and furniture I was looking for a way to create a fun DIY fall decor theme for our new room! We still have work to do on the room and pieces to add but why not start decorating for fall!?
Creating a fall theme in your home can be easy! DIY fall decor enables you to pick special pieces and incorporate things you already have around your home. You can create fall DIY in 7 simple steps!
7 steps to DIY Fall Decor
Here are my top 7 steps to creating your own DIY Fall decor!
- Invest in key pieces
- Go with the natural feel of your room
- Use pieces that can cross seasons or holidays
- Use Pinterest as inspo – but not the rule of thumb!
- Think outside the box!
- Less is more
- Incorporate what you have on hand
Invest in key pieces
Christmas Central is a one-stop shop for all of your fall decor! My favorite place to decorate is my table. I like a mix of glass and natural elements as well as different textures. The Fall Harvest Two-Tone Orange Artificial Pumpkin and Autumn Harvest Pine Cones and Apples Decorative Cone Tree are key pieces for the tablescape.
Go with the natural feel of your room
Is your room more formal or farmhouse? Christmas Central has a huge variety of fall decor that can compliment any DIY project. The pumpkin had a rustic feel which made it perfect for our farmhouse dining room.
Use pieces that can cross seasons or holidays
I love finding pieces that can cross between seasons! When you go with a pumpkin and leaves theme it can transcend from post-Labor day until you’re ready to decorate for the holidays!
Use Pinterest as inspo – but not the rule of thumb!
I LOVE Pinterest for inspiration. But don’t make Pinterest your end game! Remember, this is your DIY Fall decor so using Pinterest as inspiration can help you find key pieces and themes that will work for you!

Think outside the box!
Don’t be afraid to experiment with new looks or using items in a non-traditional way. Using the Autumn Harvest Mixed Pine Berry & Nut Thanksgiving Garland as a decoration, I wrapped it around our light which gives the room a cozy feel. I also wrapped the Autumn Harvest Pine Cones & Apples Garland in a glass bowl to adorn the dining room table.
Glittered Orange Pine Cone Wreath was fun to use in a non-traditional way! Tying them to the back of two of our chairs created an adorable fall look!
Less is more
It’s so easy to go overboard right?! I can easily go crazy when it comes to buying every fall decoration under the sun. But I’ve found with just a few pops of color and a few key pieces like the Autumn Harvest Wreath, a little goes a long way!
Don’t be afraid to incorporate what you have on hand
The table runner here is a simple lace adorned burlap and an orange burlap ribbon. Our glass bowl was a perfect on-hand accessory for our tablescape.
