Looking for some healthy snack ideas for after school?
Snack time is a favorite time in my house. In fact it’s usually a few minutes after breakfast ends that I start to hear, can I have a snack???
So as you can guess, I’m always looking for easy healthy snacks to feed my girls.
Tips for creating healthy snack recipes at home
Use the freezer – When we have a little more time in our schedule, I love to make things that are able to be frozen. It’s easy to find something homemade and healthy for after school snacks when your freezer is full!
Buy ingredients in bulk – I hate having to buy small quantities of things we use often. When I’m making snacks I try to buy ingredients like oats, peanut butter, or dried fruit in bulk to cut down on cost.
Let the kids help – If you’re looking to have your kids pick healthier snacks, getting them involved in making them will help! Also – researching what ingredients are going in your healthy snack foods and sharing that info with your kids may make them understand why we eat the food we do!
One of my favorite snack ideas for kids – Apple Nachos!
Apple Nachos are one of our favorite easy snacks. We love to take apple nachos to a party or a playdate.
I love that this apple nachos recipe is an easy snack for kids to help with! With only three ingredients, apples, melted peanut butter, and chocolate chips, it’s simple to prepare!
2 Gala apples
1/4 melted peanut butter
2 TB chocolate chips
Cut apples into slices and arrange on a plate. Heat peanut butter in microwave-safe dish for 20 seconds or until melted. Drizzle peanut butter over apples. Sprinkle chocolate chips.
This recipe can also be made ahead! I like to mix my apples with a bit of lemon juice prior to arranging on a plate to keep them from getting brown. You can proceed with the recipe and then refrigerate fora few hours before serving!
This is one of our favorite quick healthy snacks that can also be doubled as a dessert!
